With out further  delay  Heres LK!

Thank you for hosting Bleeder today at Everyone Loves A SiNner for the penultimate stop on its blog tour (I’ve always wanted to use that word in a sentence!). I’m so glad to be here for a guest post.

Today’s post is about the Empanii – the mysterious shapeshifters of Apocalypto. In Space Junque, Char Meadowlark looks down on some clouds from orbit and imagines they are angels diving to earth from heaven. She’d be shocked to learn that she was right – especially since at that point she’s an atheist.

The Empanii were once seraphim, the highest order of angels. They love the creator god Samael, and when he commanded them to bow to his newest creation – human beings – they refused.

Enraged, Samael banished them from his presence. As if that weren’t curse enough, he added a further insult. He bound the Empanii to serve human will. When an Empani is in the presence of a human being, it is compelled to assume a human form pleasing to that person. It may become male or female; an Empani is inherently sexless.

Bound to the material plane, the Empani will follow the commands of the goddess Asherah, Samael’s estranged consort. They avoid humans and prefer to live in “nests” in undeveloped forests or desserts. They often take the shape of a heron, the material form most bearable to them.

They live in a constant state of existential fury, desperate to return to the presence of their god.

In desperation, they begin to breed with humans – unknown to the humans. They hope to incorporate human free will into their species as a means to break free of Samael’s curse. They are able to produce Empani/human offspring, but they have no control over which traits the offspring acquire.

For instance, Father Jesse can play mind tricks, but he can’t shape-shift.

Copperhead, the next book in the Apocalypto series, has more about the Empani, and they figure prominently in the last book and the final clash between Asherah and Samael.

Thank You LK for   posting today !!
